My New Flag

Dear Friends!,

My break from work has turned out to be unexpectedly long.

I never thought that preparations for moving could require so much time and effort.

In late November my family and I will move to Montreal,  Canada.

I hope that by early December I will be online again and be able to communicate with you.

On this occasion I have laid out four new works.
You can find them here:
http://www.michaelsolovyev.com/en/mynewflag.html
It seems that I will have to live for two months without canvas or paint,  as my easel and box of oil overtake me,  traveling across the Atlantic Ocean.

But I hope that I will find a few sheets of paper and maybe even a pencil in Montreal :)

Thank you for your support.
I hope that the process of adapting to a new city will be easy.
Thank you!

Yours

Michael Solovyev

BigFish

Dear Friends!
I have finished the new series called

These are fourteen oil paintings, 28x28 inches on author's ground. All of the pictures can be found on my site here or on my blog where I publish my works in the order of their creation so that you can see the dynamics of art :)
And the same blog shows photos taken during the process of painting one of the works so that you can see how it was done step-by-step.
It can be found here.
I think this series is now ready for a small exhibition hall. After a little bit of rest I will look for the country and gallery for this exhibition.
Maybe I will combine two series into one exhibition: "
BigFish" along with "Six Seas."
I will think about it. But first, a small vacation!

Thank you for following my work and for your feedback, your emails, and your comments.
It really does help me in my work and I genuinely appreciate it.

Yours
Michael Solovyev

Singing Fish or painting step-by-step

I am receiving many emails and many comments on Facebook about my style and technique.
I am very grateful for all for the interest in my work, as it supports me.
Thank you my friends!

And in case you are curious...
I will tell you about about this series and how I worked on it.
Well…
I wanted to make a series of paintings of the same size and all in one technique - "BigFish."
I thought of 14 paintings. Before I work I usually prepare my canvases or cardboards myself.
For this series I chose cardboard and primed them, preparing them for nearly two weeks.
On the top of each piece cardboard are several layers - each layer is polished and primed.
This is a long process...
In addition, at I went to the aquarium in Moscow and to the Moscow Zoo. I looked at all of the fish to get some ideas. :)

All of the paintings in this series were created in one sitting.
The time it takes to complete each work varies. Usually, it takes 8-9 hours.
This is an explosion of energy for me. And after the painting is completed I just lie there for a little while :)

So here is today's new picture:

I am continuing the fish theme. I think it will be a new series called "BigFish" :)
And I think this new picture is ideal for a child's bedroom.
My wife definitely thinks so...

Thinking fish

Did you know that I always prepare the canvas for my paintings myself? It requires a lot of time. This is the reason that this month did not produce a lot of work... But now I have many pure, white new canvases, and this is great.
I cannot look at a blank canvas...

Finishing the Maple leafs theme

Hi friends!
I once did a series of "Pears."
It can be viewed on my website here.
This series has been sold. Each pear has been framed in big white mounts and now they are living in one big white wall in a private room.

The "Maple leafs" series is better to be housed in one interior. The effect of different papers in a single mat looks very good together.
I think I finished this series yesterday. But I'm sure that I will return to the use of different papers and textures of the same size in a graphic series in the future.
Thank you for your interest and enjoy!

Maple leafs theme

I continue the Maple leafs theme. It looks like the new series.
Interestingly, all the pictures made on different high-quality printing paper.
And congratulations to all my friends from the beginning of autumn,
this is a very beautiful time of year.

Maple leaf

Today I found a very nice maple leaf.
And quite by chance at hand was a good pen and sheet of "ZED zuber rieder metall" paper.

Usually this kind of paper is used for manufacturing high quality printing.
But I decided to use it for drawing:)
Well, this is it..

New polygraphy for Moscow theatre

This is the front side of the program which I have designed for the performance of "Living It Up - Russian Style."
It was created for the Moscow Regional Chamber Theatre.
But because our country is, how should I put it, "unique," a feature of this program is that opens in an unusual way and part of the text is upside down.

As promised, this blog will contain all of my works, not just paintings and graphics.
So stay tuned, and thanks for following!

Jack Daniels with ice

Hi friends :)

I would like to start this blog with my latest work.
In the words of George Bernard Shaw: "Whisky is liquid sunshine."
Love for this drink has brought a new work – this time a graphic, made of sepia on gesso (linden board).
The picture is dedicated to my friend and artist Sergei Kravtsov, together with whom we created during the flowing "senseism" and who introduced to me the taste of this wonderful drink.

Well, I think now I'll have a little vacation until mid-August. I want to see the amazing Polish city of Krakow.
And since I do not like to watch movies alone, my whole family will go with me. So we will continue in August.
Have a Nice Summer, friends!
